It's amazing the sounds I hear right now in my classroom... Lots of chatter, laughter, scissors cutting, the Cricut machine running non-stop, and the odd student panicking. The end is near!!
My ALC 9 students are quickly putting the final touches on their chosen Challenge projects that they have be working oh so ever hard on these past 5 months. Our Trade Fair is running this Friday during blocks 6 and 7 in our library and all the invitations have been sent out.
I was a tad worried last week when I saw little work happening from a few students, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw most of them trekking into school this morning with their completed Challenges. Procrastination... you have been defeated! We will be ready to go!
Today, I gave the students about 25 minutes to continue working on their projects. Then I divided them into groups of 3 where they were able to share their Challenge in a "safe" environment; with their peers, who are in the same boat. Each viewer was given a 2-1 formative assessment where they could jot down two things they liked and one thing the presenter needs to work on. Feedback was given directly back to the presenter.
After this, students went back to their desks to complete their own self-evaluation. I put together 5 CTF outcome based reflection questions for them to answer about their own individual work. This is the first time trying this, so it will be interesting to see what they have to say about their own progress. I plan on using this self-reflection as a formative assessment for their final report card.
I am really looking forward to Friday's Trade Fair... I am really proud of this group their hard work turning their unique ideas/passions into a solid presentation.
Here are some sneak peeks at what our Challenges look like:
